    6/14/2013 - Danny Wadsworth - 06/14/13

"The good news is the tuna are still here. The bad news is, it was rougher than we expected. Conner, Josh, William, Randy, Jeff, and Joe had a manly day dealing with the big waves while reeling in a good catch of yellowfin."

6-10-13 Hope they keep coming - Danny Wadsworth - 06/10/13

"Let's hope these yellowfin tuna keep coming to our fishing grounds off the NC Outer Banks. It was another banner day for boats out of Oregon Inlet. Wally Johnson and crew including Robert Cox, Peter Masi, Al Wignot, and Dave Pumphrey loaded up on a nice class of tuna. Lots of great meals to look forward to."

    6-9-13 an aquarium - Danny Wadsworth - 06/09/13

"The ocean had calmed down after the tropical storm passed by, and the tuna hole looked like an aquarium this morning. Pilot whales, porpoises, sharks, manta rays, sea birds...and yes, bites from dolphinfish and yellowfin tuna. Heard of one encounter with a big blue marlin. The Kenny Bryant party including Stu, Randy, and Lloyd filled the box and we returned to the dock before noon."

"I can't remember the last time we returned to the dock by 10:30am with a full limit of yellowfin tuna packed on ice. Nick Clem of SC seems to have good luck fishing aboard Point Runner. I am sure his party was impressed with the fast action. Thanks to Brad Kaufman, Craig Kaufman, Bill Kaufman, Tom Parry, Lesley Clem, and Nick. With more boats on the way in early, the fish cleaners at OIFC will have a busy afternoon."

"These guys have chartered Point Runner several times and it was great having them return. Glad we landed a good catch of tuna for Anthony Jackson of Elizabeth City NC, Moses Douglass Jr of E-City, Charles Izard of Conyers GA, Wilbur Hendricks of McDonough GA, and Robert Johnson of Fayetteville GA. The ocean was calm and the guys were patient because the bite was slow before turning on in the afternoon. I heard of 6 bigeye's caught. And look at this nice big yellowfin in our catch."

    5/31/2013 - Danny Wadsworth - 05/31/13

"Its always a fun trip when these guys get together. Gregg, Chris, Ronnie, Mike and the rest of the gang started out with a bang...catching a gaffer dolphin and four yellowfin tuna soon after we set out this morning. Problem is there were fifty boats out there and not many other bites were reported. By 10am we were talking about all the cobia along the beach so that's where we spent the afternoon. The cobia we found were a little shy from all the pressure on them lately and many fish we saw were undersize. But we did catch several Cobia to round out our day."

    5/30/2013 - Danny Wadsworth - 05/30/13

"It was a calm day off Oregon Inlet NC. We fished east of the inlet where it seemed some boats could not get away from tuna and other boats could not get near tuna. Sounded like the Tuna Fever had the best of it. We were several miles away and when we got there along with a dozen other boats, the bite was over. No tuna whams for Point Runner today, yet we still managed to land some nice gaffers, a small tuna, and Mako shark for our party...Joey Waters, Gregg Williams, Matt Duffy, Bobby Morgan, Mike Wido, and Michael Wido."

"We sent a pretty good catch of yellowfin tuna up the road to VA Beach with Crissi, Ryan, Steve, Scott, and Keith. Most of the bites came in a wham 35 miles east of the inlet. Always a pleasure having Scott Mendenhall and friends aboard Point Runner."

    5/28/2013 - Danny Wadsworth - 05/28/13

"We had the pleasure of having the Gangwish party from NE aboard Point Runner today. Arlen, Jason, Jeff, Mitch, and Zach came a long way to visit Joe who is in the Navy stationed in Norfolk. The guys enjoyed a calm ride out to our recent hot spots but the ocean did not give up many fish today. Hammerheads and pilot whales were plentiful but very few tuna bites reported by the fleet. A couple of boats wandering around in the deep did catch 6 or 8 yellowfin. Glad welanded 3 yellowfin and 6 dolphinfish for our guys."

"5/24/13 BigEye's and citation yellowfins We layed at the dock Thursday due to rough seas and took the opportunity to change oil in the Cats. Friday, the offshore fleet headed to the Point and found the Gulf stream in our zone. The OI fleet enjoyed great fishing...catching lots of yellowfin, mahi and Big Eye tuna. Look at this nice pair we landed....191# and 172#. Plus two citation yellowfins 73# and 71# along with some mahi for Graham Cole, Randy Cole, Mike Cole, Scott Poole, Eric DeMarko, and Rob Torbush. After landing the eyeballs and knowing strong afternoon winds were forecast, we headed home early to beat the rough weather."

"These guys picked the right day to fish. All those unproductive marks we saw on the fishfinder the day before came alive. The catch included some big gaffer dolphin, nice yellowfin tuna, and congrats to Rob on catching his first ever blue marlin and our first of the year. Great day for Byron Green, Rob Keenan, Guy Mahanes, Tommy Deans, and Johnny Pauls."

"Oh yes. Check out this nice catch made by Dan McLeod, Don McLeod, Don Neilson, Lon Wolbler, and Mark Gimmi. Look closely at the picture and you will see we also fed a hungry shark. The OI fleet enjoyed a great day of fishing. Plus a couple more marlin were caught too. By the way Don of Heathsville VA remembered the bring Capt Danny some Northern Neck Ginger Ale. Love that stuff."

    5-16-13 everybody got some - Danny Wadsworth - 05/16/13

"All ten boats who left the Fishing Center this morning made a nice catch. The anglers earned every fish with it being so rough. Half the boats went down the beach in search of dolphin. The others steamed out to the tuna hole. The dolphin fleet found a grass line outside the Point and loaded up on gaffers and bailers. The tuna fleet enjoyed catching a few free-range dolphin and there were some tuna whams. High Return had the best of it with 12 yellowfin today. Our Point Runner anglers were plenty happy with a good catch of dolphin plus 5 fat yellowfin. Thanks to Scott Ferry, Chip McDowell, Jesse Chandler, John Hubbard, Curt Hanson, and Chris Cook for fishing with us today."

    5/13 & 5/14/13 - Danny Wadsworth - 05/14/13

"5/13 We expected it to be a little lumpy, but it turned out to be rougher than we bargained for. Greg Morris and friends handled it well and may not have noticed the 6 to 8 footers if the fish had bitten . The small fleet called it an early day. We went home with 4 dolphin. 5/14 What a difference a day makes. It was smooth sailing for Phil Maness and friends Jimmy, Pete, Lee, Matt, and Ken. Beautiful Gulf Stream water covered the Point. Unfortunately no grass lines were found. There were scattered dolphin and yellowfin tuna bites. A couple of boats may have had 8 or 9 yellowfin. Point Runner landed 15 mahi, 3 tuna, and our first sailfish of the season."

    5-12-13 box full - Danny Wadsworth - 05/12/13

"Thanks to Jeff McKinney, Jordan, Joseph, David, Trace, and Andy for sharing a couple of mahi with Scotty and Capt Danny to take home for dinner. The guys endured a rough ride out this morning but once we reached the Gulf Stream this great catch made it worth the ride. More yellowfin tuna also hit the dock and look at this nice Mako shark we landed. Fire up the grill! The seas calmed during the day making for a smooth ride home."

"The Swartz party of PA ...Rick, Gayle, Morgan and Dudley loaded the box with nice dolphin. They can look forward to lots of great meals cooked on the grill and delicious in fish tacos. Glad you guys had another successful day aboard Point Runner. And good work by relief captain Greg Erwin and relief mate Brad Diaz. Capt Danny was out of town and mate/co-capt Scotty was involved with his sister's wedding. Great to have such good fishing out of Oregon Inlet. The fleet has caught a few tuna and blue marlin as well."

    4/29/2013 - Danny Wadsworth - 04/29/13

"If the stormy weather had not cut our day short, this may have shaped up to be a good day for tuna fishing. The stream has almost made it up to the Point and within the first few minutes of fishing the five boats that ventured out were reporting tuna bites. Sea Breeze had the best of it catching seven along with some mahi. Smoker had a couple of very nice yellowfin and a wahoo. Aboard Point Runner, our first two yellowfin pulled the hook before making it to the boat. We did land three yellows and a couple of blackfins. By then the sea was rough and rain so heavy the fleet decided make way for home. Thanks to our crew including Chuck Diehl, Nick Diehl, Nate Diehl, Justin Betz, Tim Mull, and Jason Pfleegor for fishing with us today."

    4-27-13 looking better - Danny Wadsworth - 04/27/13

"Good water is moving closer to Oregon Inlet. The fleet landed a few more yellowfin, blackfin, mahi, and wahoo. Plus all the cores you want near the change. Look at this 55 pound yellowfin caught by Ronnie. More of these should be swimming our way soon."

    4-18-13 encouraging sign - Danny Wadsworth - 04/18/13

"A good sign of what's to come. Five yellowfin and three blackfin for Mike Drury, his friend Mike, his other friend Mike, also Ken, and Paul all from MD. The sea was calm. Conditions looked good. Surprised we did not get more bites. Happy to put some fish on ice. It sounded like the boats out of Hatteras down below us were having more bites. The fleet reported a few Bluefin tuna, a wahoo or two, and a mako shark. We will rest at the dock for the next few days to let the rough weather pass. Hoping for good fishing next week."

"Yellowfin tuna are trickling in and giant Bluefin tuna are still in our waters. A dozen boats departed the inlet this morning headed south to find the gulf stream current. Big Al on the Country Girl had the best of it getting hit by yellowfin twice. Some boats got hit by tuna, others did not. Point Runner had our first yellowfin bites of the year landing a couple for our anglers from the Northern Neck of VA. Lisa and Tom Gale, and Lisa and Clay Holcomb. We enjoyed calm seas, saw a couple of whales, porpoises, and later in the day we witnessed giant Bluefin tuna leaping out of the water chasing bait. Hard as we tried, we never hooked one but some were caught and released by other boats. We are all hoping the stream moves a little closer by next weekend."
