10/2 All-Day Slaughter! Posted by Devin Cage at 8:56:26 AM on 10/4/2009
What a trip-triggerfish,sea bass, spanish mackerel, bluefish, false albacores and sharks to name a few of the species we landed this day! I started out in 15ft of water looking for the spanish mackerel and you could have kept the nicer size bluefish on all morning. I just kept pulling looking for the mackerel and found them under a couple of terns in tight to the beach. We landed close to 20 of the 2lb-4lb class spanish before I moved on. I then picked up and made a steam to a wreck and just CRUSHED the triggerfish with 2 hook rigs on spinning tackle, big triggers too the largest of the season for me. I then made another move offshore and stayed hooked up on the sea bass but we really had to cull through them to get the keepers,we did manage about 15 to 2lbs for the table. Plenty of croakers around off the beach too,one spot the bottom was covered with them, big marks. In the croakers were some sharks as well if you're into that sort of thing. On the way home I tried for some kings with some bigger gear out and landed a couple of false albacores but never had a king bite. I received a report of a wave of kings moving through last week by the commercial guys but i never found them. Maybe this week the kings will show up,try 120ft that usually works for me... Plenty of life along the beach right now, really looks good for fishing.
